Thankfulness and Adoration

CS Lewis, Letters to Malcom Chiefly on Prayer

Pleasures are shafts of glory as it strikes our sensibility … I have tried to make every pleasure into a channel of adoration. I don’t mean simply by giving thanks for it. One must of course give thanks, but I meant something different … Gratitude exclaims, very properly, “How good of God to give me this.” Adoration says, “What must be the quality of that Being whose far-off and momentary coruscations are like this!” One’s mind runs back up the sunbeam to the sun … If this is Hedonism, it is also a somewhat arduous discipline. But it is worth some labour.

In case like me you don't know what coruscations are, you can find out here.

To be like Jesus

I have a God who teaches me and made me,
I know that there will be sacrifices to make,
I gain strength from obsession,
an obsession with Him.
I may be scarred but I know Another who is scarred,
I share in His suffering, He lives within.

I want to live each day without compromise,
without regret or excuse,
I will endure what ever lies before me,
I will chase down His vision without diversion or retreat,
In pursuit of Him, I am neither timid or afraid,
I am relentless.

I appeal to you therefore brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1

Old Friends

It's great when you get to spend some time with some of your best and oldest friends. Last night Pete and I enjoyed a whole lot of food, some beer and a couple of good movies too!

Fighting Hard

Just wanted to point you in the direction of a great resource here for memorising parts of the Bible.

Pray for my discipline in working hard at this.

Good news Story

Over the last few months or so I've been enjoying some study with my pastor. We've been using the Porterbrook modules. We read through a chapter of the material and then get together (in person or on Skype) to talk it through.

Time and time again the Old Testament we see God's people failing to follow him and live up to his perfect standards. Thankfully the Story doesn't stop there...

When I read about the Israelites I find myself judging them for their actions and behaviour but If I'm honest and look at my own life, I'm just like the Israelites in the OT. So often, I just decide that I know best and I'll do things my own way. I walk away from God without giving him a second thought. I'm unfaithful to him.

Back to the Story... Jesus lived a life that was perfect. He obeyed God in everything and that even meant dying on a cross! Now, because he is my representative I am also counted as faithful.

That's some seriously good news. Jesus is my only hope!
